There is some corrosion on two of the main unit's battery contacts, I cleaned them very well with a wire brush, and opened the unit to make sure that the acid did not get to the circuits. All is good, the alarm works as expected. The remote control needs a special 12V battery, do a search for 23A or 23AE battery, it's fairly inexpensive.
